What to do with those 15 minutes

This is a post from a guest blogger who is also a supertutor on Cambly.  He is currently living in Taiwan and has been on Cambly for 18 months….

Now that you’ve joined Cambly, you’re probably sitting in front of your computer staring at that shiny tutor admin panel and you’re thinking “What do I do now?”  Don’t Panic! It’s not as daunting as it looks at first glance. You’ll soon find your way around. But after looking around and reading the Tutor Guide, the next thing you should do is become a student! As a new tutor, Cambly gives you 15 mins of student time. My advice? Use it wisely young Jedi.

Your first thought will be to take those minutes and just click on random tutors and have a chat. Nope, no, no, no. (I’m shaking my head here). Here’s what you do. Once you’re logged in, simply click your tutor image on the top right and choose Switch Role –> Student from the dropdown menu.  You’ll then be given a list of available tutors

Look around for a supertutor (supertutors are the elite of Cambly tutors with a rating of 4.9 or above and over 700 reviews) and spend your 15 minutes asking them questions about working on Cambly… “How do I get regular students, what is a PH hour, how can I get a good rating, what do I do if I run out of time, can I save slots for students, and most important of all… why did Game of Thrones have such a terrible ending?” All the essential questions!

Supertutor example

During my time on Cambly I’ve had several Tutors come to me as ‘students’ and ask me about tutoring here. Every single one of them has said the same thing, “Thank you so much, that was really helpful, I’m glad I called you!” In all honesty, those were some of my favourite ‘classes’, chatting with new tutors and mentoring them, giving them the benefit of my time at Cambly and passing on hints and tips they’d otherwise not get. I’m actually a little surprised that Cambly doesn’t have some kind of system to match newbie tutors up with an experienced tutor. But maybe it’s in the pipeline, there are a lot of changes happening at the moment on Cambly, I’m hoping that’s one of them!

Best. Mark (The White Rabbit.)
