There’s A New Cambly Classroom!

About a month ago, tutors on Cambly received an email announcing  “a beta testing phase for a new Cambly classroom”. Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit if I wasn’t totally surprised by that!!!  A new classroom??? Well you kept that one quiet Cambly!! To be honest, we’ve all been looking out for the new classroom here in Camblyland, but up to the time of this post, none of the tutors here have seen this new classroom. Hopefully the beta ends soon and we’ll get to see it first hand, but until then we’ve had some more interesting news…. EXTRA MONEY!

Yep you read that right, Cambly followed up the original mail with another one about changes to pay!  OK, so let’s go over it and see what it means to tutors.

First and most importantly, these changes apply to the new classroom only! The following changes will have no effect in the current ‘old’ classroom

Late student pay

OLD CLASSROOM: OK, let’s say you have a reservation from 2pm to 2.30pm. At the moment (and until you get the new classroom) you have to wait 10 minutes for your student, if the student arrives after 8 minutes for example, you have to take the call and continue the class until your next student arrives at 2.30. You don’t get paid the late fee (the student arrived before 10 minutes) and you only get paid for the time teaching (22 minutes).

NEW CLASSROOM: You get paid for ANY TIME you have to wait for that student (up to 10 minutes). You’re waiting for that same student and they turn up 8 minutes late again and you take the call and continue the class until your next class at 2.30pm.  This time, you are paid for your 8 minutes waiting and the rest of your time teaching. So you get a full 30 minute class if the student is late!!!!!!

Student leaves the classroom…

OLD CLASSROOM: If the student disconnects during the class and comes back after 5 minutes, you’ve lost that time. So you get paid 25 minutes of a 30 minute class

NEW CLASSROOM: If for any reason there is an issue which means the student is not in the classroom you will still get paid. So if during a 30 minute class, the student disconnects for ten minutes and you remain in class, you get paid. HOWEVER… the email does say, “as long as you’re waiting and the student returns…”  A little clarification needed here Cambly. What if my student leaves after 15 minutes due to a bad connection and doesn’t return while I’m still waiting? Do I still get my 30 minutes???

As Cambly says in the mail, “Our priority is to pay you for all the time you are in the classroom”. Surely that’s a step in the right direction? Can’t wait to see what else this New Classroom will bring us!

Until next time.  Alice.
