Cambly FAQ’s March 2023.. Questions from the internet answered!

This post will cover some questions we’ve been asked here at camblytutorblog.com, as well as the most popular questions asked on the net about joining Cambly.

How much does Cambly Pay.

We’ve seen various answers to this online ranging from Glassdoor.com saying “Estimated pay for an English Tutor at Cambly is $21 per hour. This number represents the median…” and Zippier.com saying “Cambly pays an average of $51,239 a year or 24.63 an hour….”  I don’t know where these figures came from, but even as a ‘median’ they’d have to be taking the CEO’s pay into account!!! Both of these sites are complete nonsense!! Cambly pay has been static for several years and is currently  $0.17/min ($10.20/hour) for Cambly and $0.20/min ($12.00/hour) for Cambly kids.

 

What is the minimum age for tutoring on Cambly?

Cambly states that the minimum age for tutoring with them is 18.

 

Is Cambly legit?

Yes! Cambly is a company based in San Fransisco that provides software to bring English tutors and students together.

 

Can you get rejected from Cambly?

Yes. Cambly is a company like any other and not everyone who applies will be accepted.

 

How do you get accepted at Cambly?

How long does it take for Cambly to answer my application.

This varies. Personally my first application never got a reply and my second application (6 months later) got accepted after a few weeks. Taking a quick straw poll of the tutors here, the average time was 4-5 weeks.

Can I teach Cambly on my phone?

No, there is a Cambly app but it’s designed for students only. It’s one of the things we’d like to see upgraded.  A Cambly tutor app to check our reservations would be great! Cambly asks you to teach from a PC/Laptop.

Do you have to show your face on Cambly?

Cambly is a video tutoring platform. The tutor guide states that your camera should be always be on and your face in view.

 

Can you make money on Cambly?

You get paid $10 dollars an hour. How many hours you work is up to you.

 

How much does a Cambly tutor make?

Again, this is up to the tutor. The average hours worked, ranges a few hours a week to 10 hours a day.  The average weekly wage for us here is approx. $350 each a week. BUT, this is not every week and we have all been on Cambly for several years and have a solid base of regular students. Expect to get paid less as a new tutor.

 

What do I need to join Cambly?

Cambly has no formal requirements apart from being a native English speaker. No qualifications are required.

 

Can I get fired from Cambly?

Just like any other paid work, you can get fired.

 

What does a Cambly tutor do?

A tutor will talk with students and help them learn English. Tutors can use Cambly lessons or provide their own materials.
